Zinc sulphate, colorless or white crystals, granules or powder. Odorless, astringent. Weathering in dry air, lose all crystal water at 280°C and decompose above 500°C. 1g dissolved in 0.6ml water, 2.5ml glycerol, insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is acidic to litmus and has a pH of about 4.5. Containing 1 crystal water is less likely to agglomerate. Relative density 1.97. 100 ° C melting point. * Small lethal dose (rat, oral) 2200 mg/kg. Irritating. Used for the manufacture of Lithopone and used as a mordant, astringent, wood preservative, etc. Used as an emetic in medicine.
Physical properties
Appearance and properties: colorless orthorhombic crystals, particles or powder, odorless, astringent taste.
Solubility: Soluble in water.
2 Chemical properties
Pure zinc sulphate does not yellow in the air for a long time and loses water in dry air to become white powder. There are several hydrates: the stable hydrate that equilibrates with the water phase in the range of 0-39°C is zinc sulfate heptahydrate, which is 6-water zinc sulfate in 39-60°C, and zinc sulfate monohydrate in 60-100°C. When heated to 280°C, various hydrates completely lose crystal water, break down into zinc oxysulfate at 680°C, and further decompose above 750°C. * Decompose into zinc oxide and sulfur trioxide around 930°C. ZnSO4·7H2O forms mixed crystals with MSO4·7H2O (M = Mg, Fe, Mn, Co, Ni) within a certain range. It reacts with a base to form a zinc hydroxide precipitate that reacts with a phosphonium salt to form a barium sulfate precipitate.
3 Industrial Applications
It is the main raw material for the manufacture of lithopone and zinc salts. It can also be used as a mordant for printing and dyeing, a preservative for wood and leather, and an important auxiliary material for producing viscose fibers and vinylon fibers. In addition, there are also applications in the electroplating and electrolysis industries and can also be used to make cables.
Cooling water in industry is *water consumption. Cooling water in a closed circulating cooling system does not corrode metal and scale. Therefore, this process is called water quality stabilization, and zinc sulfate is used as a water quality stabilizer here.
4 Medical Applications
It is used as an emetic in medicine.
5 Application in Agriculture
It can be used to prevent the diseases of fruit tree nurseries. It is also a common fertilizer for supplementing crop zinc trace element fertilizers. It can be used as base fertilizer, foliar fertilizer and so on.
6 Hazard Overview
Health hazards: The product has moderate irritation to the eyes and no irritation to the skin. Misuse can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and other acute gastrointestinal symptoms, severe dehydration, shock, and even death.
Environmental hazards: Harm to the environment and cause pollution to water bodies.
Explosion hazard: This product is non-flammable and irritating.
7 First aid measures
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and rinse with flowing water.
Eye contact: Raise eyelids and rinse with running water or saline. Get medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly escape from the scene to fresh air. Keep the airway open. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration immediately. Get medical attention.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water and drink milk or egg white. Get medical attention.
8 Leakage emergency treatment
Emergency treatment: Isolation of contaminated areas and restricted access. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear dust masks and wear uniforms. Do not touch the spill directly.
A small amount of leakage: Avoid dust, be careful to sweep it up, and collect and transport it to a waste disposal site for disposal.
A large number of leaks: collected and recycled or shipped to waste disposal sites for disposal.
9 Fire Fighting Measures
Hazardous characteristics: Does not burn itself. The toxic gases are liberated by high heat.
Hazardous combustion products: sulfur oxides.
Fire-fighting methods: Firefighters must wear full-body fire protection and anti-virus clothing to extinguish the fire in the upwind direction. When the fire is extinguished, remove the container from the fire as far as possible. Then select the appropriate extinguishing agent to extinguish the fire according to the cause of fire
10 Handling and Storage
Operational Notes: Closed operation, local exhaust. Prevent dust from being released into the workshop air. Operators must be specially trained to strictly observe the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter-type dust masks, wear chemical safety glasses, wear rubber and acid-resistant clothes, and wear rubber and acid-resistant gloves. Avoid dust. Avoid contact with oxidants. Equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be harmful residues.
Storage Notes: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. Prevent direct sunlight. Package sealed. should be kept away from oxidizer, do not store together. Storage areas should be equipped with suitable materials for containment and leakage.
11 Preparation Method
The zinc oxide is added to the dilute sulfuric acid solution to form a slurry. After the reaction is completed, the zinc, copper, cadmium, nickel, etc. are replaced by the zinc powder after filtration, the filtrate is heated, the filtrate is heated, potassium permanganate is added, and iron, manganese and other impurities are added. Oxidation, filtration, clarification, concentration, cooling and crystallization, centrifugation, and drying. It can also be prepared by leaching sulfuric acid from roasted zinc ore.
12 transportation information
Transportation Notes: The packaging should be complete when shipped, and the loading should be secure. During transportation, it is necessary to ensure that the container does not leak, does not collapse, falls or is damaged. It is strictly prohibited to mix and transport with oxidants, edible chemicals, etc. Avoid exposure, rain, and high temperature during transportation. Complete cleaning of the vehicle should be completed. When driving on roads, follow the prescribed route.
